HIDE AND TALLOW SALES
The New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report that at the usual fortnightly sale held on the 22nd instant' the attendance of buyers was fully representative, and competition was keen, but at prices considerably lower than those rulirig at the auctions held two weeks ago. Reports from Melbourne, Sydney, and the United States received her* during the last week or ten days, had indicated that the' market had leased considerably, with the result that our auctions to-day we w r ere reluctantly compelled to take prices which show a drop of 3d to 4d per lb on most lines of ox, cow and calf. Tallow.—The few lines"of tallow sold also show a depreciation of from Is (3d to 3 s per cwt.
The Government embargo on hides in favour of tanners "has not yet been raised, consequently tanners are still allowed to exercise their option on any lines at top prioe bid by shippers. PALMEItSTON NORTH STOCK. . SALE. •'• Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., .report that at Palmerston on the 21st a good yarding of sheep and cattle 'came forward. There was a poor enquiry lior sheep. Good dairy 'bulls were keenly sought after. FEILDING "STOCK SALE
At : Feilding, on the 22nd instant, we had a good yarding.of both sheep and cattle. We quote as follows:
Sheep. —Fat shorn ewes, 26/6; fat wethers, to £2 ss; shorn hoggets, to 23/11; mixed hoggets, 22/6 to 23/7; ewe hoggets, to 24/6; two-tooth wethers 29/10 to 33/7; four and six-tooth wethers, to 36/-. '•■' r ; :.
