PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
REPUBLICANS AND THE LEAGUE,
Receive,*? 9.30 a.m. WASHINGTON, Oct. 26,
JlThe Eepublicans are planning an eiensive use of M. Leon Bourgeois' interview with Mr Harding, stating that Article Ten is not vital to the League's efficiency; especially in view of President Wilson's characterisation of Article Ten, as the Covenant's heart, plus Mr Cox's insistence in the acceptance of Article Ten with suitable reservations. Democrats believe that M. Bourgeois' views will not affect the issue, pointing out that they are only the personal opinions of a man who differed with President Wilson over many details*
THE DEMOCRATIC VIEW. Received 9.30 a.jn. WASHINGTON, Oct. 26. Mr Cox, speaking at Ashland, Kentucky, said that if elected he would await the return of the Senatorialelections before determining the ext&n.t of the compromise he would make 4Nttth the Senate regarding the Covenant reservations
THE LABOUR VOTE. SOLID SUPPORT FOR COX. Received.9.su a.m. WASHINGTON, Oct. 26. Indications point to the fact that Labour is throwing in its support solidly to Cox. Mr Samuel Gompers who has stressed the fact that Labour is not partisian, and will give its support only where it can expect the fairest treatment, has been openly campaigning for Mr Cox and the-Leagued of Nations. It is significant;, also that West Virginia, which is one,of the greatest Lahour States of the -Union, received Mr Cox while he was,' touring the State. A fbebour Union meeting at Marion, Ohio, condemned Mr Harding for 1 his a*tion against Labour as a member or the Marion Manufacturers' Association..
