. 0 THE KING'S "ON OUR SELECTION." TO-NIGHT. Recent cables inform us of tKe tremendous success in London of "Steele Rudd's play "On Our-fcelection'' and it is interesting to note ithat Raymond Longford's picturisation of the book that made Steele. Rudd famous will be released for the first time in Taihupe at the King's to-night under the direction of E. JV Carroll. "On our Selection" is a page torn from the book of life. Every incident; in the film version may be aptly described at; a piece of life torn from the book. As one follows the vieissitudeg of the Rudd family it is claimed one actually j lives the book over again. There is no ; resort to buffoonery or exaggeration—no departure from the realms of possibility, in order to emphasise either the-pathetic or funny side of this most human narrative. 'Dad' is just the 'Dad' of hundreds of backblock selections throughout Australia —big-heart-ed, and hard-working, and "irascible, and 'Mum' is just tho 'Mum' that' bakes the bread and mends the clothes, and da-rns the socks, and raises a brood of the hardy self-reliam': young 'Diggers' that the world has learned to know and respect. The other types have been picked with, the greatest care by Raymond Longford, the producer of "The Sentimental Bloke."
It is claimed that "On Our Selection" is ; he most expensive picture in regard to producing and royalty rights "that has ever been turned out in Australia.
The box plan is now on view at' Sherwin 's. '"" .
