FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1920. THE PEACE OUTLOOK.

The situation of the Russian Government is daily becoming increasingly serious. Polish armies are having little more than a walk-over in central and northern Russia } and Wrangel has reached a stage, of victory which enables him to export a considerable quanatity of what is available in South Russia for export trade. Despite an almost constant raging war in the Russian wheatgrowing area there was harvested, according to what appear to be quite reliable reports, an exceptionally good yield of qereafcs, and if Wrangel has instituted safe means of marketing via the Black Sea ports and the Dardanelles he has gone a long way towards securing ultimate victory against Bolshevism and in solving the bread problem in the British Empire. For, if the produce from Russian wheat-fields is really being added to the world's surplus for use in countries that do not grow enough for themselves, the world's supply will more than equal the world demand. A considerable factor in assuring cheap bread will be found in a return to wheat-growing on a much larger scale in countries where much of the best land was devoted to princely parks and shooting grounds. No more gratifying news has been Cabled from Southern Russia for some years, for the report of cereal export by Wrangel has an irresistibly true ring about it. The recommencement of trading relationship with the outer world is going, to prove of .incalculable value to Wrangel's cause, as it wifl mean a return to prosperity after six years of death and devastation in a war more bitter and searching than any country was ever previously cursed with. It ' will furnish money for Wrangel to feed and clothe his armies; it will bring joy and contentment to the Ukranian and transCaspian people, giving them a new spirit and determination to crush out the pack of revolutionaries usurping sway over all Russia from Moscow. Trustworthy reports from Moscow indicate that the Soviet is thoroughly alarmed at the ceaselessly increasing number of desertions from the Red army, and that the Soviet is taking drastic measures to force all ablebodied men into the ranks in a mighty effort to stem the onrushing tide of defeat. A feature of the dire straits into which Bolshevism has fallen is the frequent assassination of Red commissaries, and the anti-Bolshevik activities in Petrograd. Peaceful conditions have been tasted in southern wheat country, and it seems, the majority of Russian people are determined to end that orgy of war and bloodshed the two ill-conditioned revolutionaries". Lenin and Trotsky, have forced upon them. Peace 'in Russia signifies so much to the remainder of the exploited people of the world, for it must be palpable that the abundance of food Russian people can contribute to the needed supply is very soon going to turn the scale. famine conditions going up and plentitude going down with a bump.
