MILLIONAIRE SOCIALIST SENTENCED.
In Chicago last month Mr. William Bross Loyd, a millionaire Socialist an official of the Communist Labour Party ■which he has largely financed, , was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and £6OO fine, having been convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the Government. The others were condemned to from one to five years ’ imprisonment, and to pay £2OO fine each. Lloyd, a Harvard graduate, inherited his wealth from his father, who was a well-known Boston philanthropist. Some of the other prisoners are professional men, and reputed to be well-to-do. They include a lawyer and the editors of two Anarchist publications. SHUT OUT. A rich Paris business man caused a family vault to be built in Pe.re Lachaise cemetery. While ho was abroad his sister-in-law, whom he detested, filed, and was the first member of the family Ho be burried in the vault. The man came hurrying back to Paris and made a complaint to the Prefect of the Seine that somebody had been buried in his vault without Ms 1 per- j mission. He gave instructions that' henceforth nobody was to buried in his vault without his permission in writing. After having given his instructions, the business man promptly died. The sequel may be imagined. The family wanted to bury him in the -vault, but the prefect refused permission because ho had pot received the fiead man’s, written permission. After prolonged discussion" the coffin was placed outside the entrance Ho the tomb,, and there it will remain until the law courts have settled* the matter.
