Freeman’s Journal states that the Government is enrolling and arming Ulster volunteers as special constables. They are paid 70/- weekly, with ten shillings extra for raid duty, and pensions for those injured on duty. The paper alleges that the Grand Lodges have taken the matter up, and are threatening to expel membefs who refuse to join. MYSTERIOUS 'HUNGER-STRIKERS McSWEENEY’S LONG LAST, DOCTORS CONFOUNDED. The public belief that McSweeuey must be getting food is not shared by the Home Office, which explicitly states that he is refusing all food, and there is 119 reason (to suspect that he is receiving any from his relatives. He takes hot water and medicine, which arrest certain deterioration processes. The inystery of the , hunger strikers at Cork, who have fasted two days longer than McSweeney, is also unsolved, and. is confounding the doctors. DOMINION HOME RULE. IRELAND’S OBLIGATIONS. Received 9.10 a.m. LONDON, October 6. Mr. Lloyd George, in a special interview, disagreed with the application of complete Dominion Home Rule to Ireland adding: "If that were conceded, we must expect that Ireland would undertake her share of the war debt; otherwise the taxpayers of England, and STedtland would be placed in an impossible position.”
