SEAMEN STOP WORK.
DEMAND PROSECUTION OF EMPLOYERS. WELLINGTON,. October. 5. A stopwork meeting of seamen, today passed a motion strongly protesting against the employment of Japanese steamers with Japanese crews ins inter-eplonial trade, and instructed union headquarters to take immediate action in the interests of .the whole membership of union. The meeting also passed a resolution, "That wheras seamen had been prosecuted, / convicted and sentenced iii 1917 un*der the war regulations then and now j i force, for allegedly holding up a sec- ' Hon of the mercantile marine in; th'efshape of a few small steamers engaged .exclusively in the costal trade, s. demand be ma der To the Government to immediately prosecute under the regulations employers or wharf labour at Wellington in allegedly causing to • be held up at this pori during the- . past week a I»rge section of the mercantile marine, including overseas vessels." ..'..
