J TAOROA NOTES. k""| m (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday last the ladies gave itreturn dance to the bachelors a£ Taoroa, and the function was well attended. The weather was fine, and there were a number of visitors present from various parts of'the district, although every road except one was blocked by wash-outs or landslides caused by the recent heavy storrn. The music for the dances was supplied by Miss Ghase <(piano) and Mr J. Thomasen (violin), and Misses Casey and Chase officiated as M's.C. until 10.30, as it was leap year until. that time. During the evening musical and vocal items were contributed by the following: Mr H. G. Chase, "Down by . the Old Mill Stream'f; Mr J Thomasen, "Somewhere a Voice is Calling";: Mr Spink, "Where do Flies go in Winter Time?" Mr C, Irwin, "How McDougal Topped the Score"; Mr Cox v "Rose of No Man's Land," and "One Of These Days"; Miss Chase and MrChase, "Busy Bee," and "Give Me the Moonlight"; Mr Normanby, "So Particular." Messrs Chase and Cox then officiated as M's.C. Extras were played by Mrs Allen, Miss C. Chase, and a ' friend on the accordeon. The floor was in splendid order, and the excellent supper provided by the ladies - .was done full justice to. Misses Chase and Casey, and Messrs Casey ana Chase have decided to arrange a concert and dance at an; early date. OHTJTU NEJWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Owing to so much Tain lately, theroads are in a bad staiie. In many places they were blocked by slips, but most v of them have been cleared suffi : ' eiently to let all trafiie through. It will, however be some time before they are all cleared up. A euchre party was held here on Friday night, but owing to it beingsuch a rough night not many itiirnect' out. Miss Da vies on the lady's prize and Mr. W. Thurston the gent's.
