EX-MAYOR OF WANGANUI. WELLINGTON, 1 Sept. 28. At a brief sitting of die Court of Appeal this afternoon, the Chief Justice presiding, with Judge Edwards, Cooper, Chapman and Herd man, Mr. von Haast, on behalf of the, New Zealand Law Society, moved for a rule absolute striking off the roils of barristers and. solicitors of the Supreme Court Charles Even Mackay, late mayor of Wanganui, at presentserving • a sentence of 15 years ’ imprisonment for attempted murder. The court made the rule absolute and allowed £ls 15/ costs. FIRE AT HAMILTON. HAMILTON, Sept, 29. A fire occurred shortly after ten o’clock to-night in a large eight-room-ed residence in Collingwood Street owned and occupied by Mr E. Wilson, headmaster of theh Hamilton Eight. School. When the brigade arrived in response to a cell from Mr. Wilson, the front of the house was burning fiercely. There was a little delay in getting water, but the outbreak was extinguished, after extensive, damage to two rooms. The fire appareit ly started under the house. Both bouse and furniture are insured.
