MR. HUGHES DENIES REPORT,
SYDNEY, Sept 25.
Mr. Hughes denies that the Commonwealth has sold 100,000 tons of coal to New Zealand; Asked of anysuch transaction was contemplated he said, "I don't know." i REMARKABLE RAILWAY TRAGEDY. SYDNEY, Sept. 26. A remarkable railway tragedy occurred on a goods train travelling from Goulbarn. The engine suddenly parted from the tender. The driver (Herman) and the fireman (Taylor) were thrown violently to the ground and killed. • The engine, without its crew, travelled to the next station, where it pulled up. The trucks forming the train luckily stopped a few yards from the scene of the accident.
THE MISSING SCOW
AEROPLANE ALSO MISSING. MELBOURNE, Sept. 26. An aeroplane with Captain Stutt and Sergeant Daizell aboard, which was searching for the missing schooner Amelia J. is also missing, and, fears are entertained for the safety of the airmen. Received 10.50 a.m. HOBART, This Day. The Government steamer Melbourne fitted with wireless and equipped with a seaplane sailed shortly after midnight to search for the scow Amelia J. MELBOURNE, This Day. There is no news of the Amelia J, or Stutt, It is thought that the airman was forced to land in a thicklytimbered district on the Tasmanian Coast, but fears are not entertained for his safety.
