VALEDICTORY.

PRESeMvTIONS TO MR. At the conclusion of thV half-yearly meeting of the Rangitikei General and Co-operative Timber Co., Ltd:, on Wednesday, a pleasing ceremony took place. The chairman (Mr. Punch) informed the members present that Mr. F. W. Stringer, who had been their Secretary for the past ten years, was leaving •them shortly for another sphere of activity. He felt they should hot let the occasion pass without expressing their high regard and appreciation of the work done by Mr. Stringer during that long period. His work Trad always been marked by a high standard of ability, and they were extremely sorry.to lose such a capable official. The chairman thereupon asked Mr. Stringer to accept a pair of binoculars and ,a substantial cheque* ijrom i;he members of the Company as a tangible proof of their esteem and appreciation. (Applause). v The leather ease containing the binoculars we* suitably engraved as follows:—"Presented to F. W. Stringer, Esq. by the members of the Rangitikei General and Co-operative Timber Co., Ltd., as a 'oken of esteem and appreciation of Ms SO years' faithful service, as Secretary of the Company, 30/9/20.

Messrs. E. W. Smith, M.P., Bartholomew, Stone, Gibbs, Hutchison -ana the General Manager, (Mr. Carpenter) spoke with feeling and highly eulogistic references were made regarding the capabilities possessed by their late secretary. (Applause). Mr. Stringer In rep.v. said he was much touched by the goodwill and comradeship which had existed between the millers, the General Manager/and himself during the time he had been their secretary, and thanked them one and all for the gifts. He Would particularly like to say what kindly help he had always received from Mr. Carpenter. The time, however, had come when he must move on, and as the opportunity had presented itself, he felt Tie must take it. He regretted the necessity of severing his connection with 'the Company. He would remember with the greatest possible pleasure the time he had been with them.

On Friday, the staff of the Rangitieki General and Co-operative Timber Co. met in the* Board Eoom for the purpose of presenting to" Mr; Stringer a suit case on the eve of his departure. " The presentation was made by the General Manager, who, in the course of a short speech expressed the regret of the staff and himself at losing Mr. Stringer. He felt sure the Secretary had been a great asset with all whom he came in contact, 'Re took this opportunity of stating' that Mr. Gulliver the Auckland representative, and Mr. Millwood, of Wanganui, ha*d" associated themselves with the gift, thereby showing their esteem and regard, rv.il he read a letter from these twolfentlenieii. He wished Mr. Stringer, on behal*~jOf the Whole staff, the best of luck in the future.

Mr.. W. V. Kelsall, chief clerk, also expressed the regret of himself and the staff at losing. Mr. Stringer, and wished him the best of luck.

Mr. Hayes, Secretary of the Co., said that he had only known file Tate secretary a month, but in that time he had seen what a .thorough man he was succeeding He wished him good luck in the future. '

Mr. .Stringer, to whom the gift came as a. complete surprise, said he "keenly felt the severance with the Company. He thanked the staff most heartily and gave the junior ra°mbc''s some good advice in connection wi f h their duties.
