HUIAS- DEFEAT OLD GIRLS,
Ou the Recreation Ground yesterday the Huias and Old Girls ’ Hockey teams met in a competition match. The ground was rather heavy on account of the rain and the conditions generally were not fattttirablc for good hockey. Both teams, however, played beyond all expectations under such unfavourable conditions, and the game was fast and interesting. The play in the first spoil was‘very even, and there were some good passing rushesby both teams. The .Huias were getting slightly the best of the game, and notched a neat goalL The rest of the spd'l was fairly even, but there was .no alteration in the score. On commenqipg the second speH, the Old Girl's, apparently intent on evenng up the score, were quickly on the attack, and before five minutes had elapsed they had scored a goal and evened the score. The Huias were now in the (position of having to score in order *0 give them a chance in the eompe(fjitipn, and they became aggressive and had the Old Giris defending for several minutes. The defence was good ancl sound, and the Old Gin’s got going again and took play to the Hulas’’ Territory, the latter having to defend their goal for some tinm. Tl?e Huias however, made a determined and successful 1 effort near the . end. They took play to the Old- Gilt’s’ territory and Succeeded in adding another goal to their score, hus winning by two goals to one. Messrs. S. F. Reid and J. Eenwick controlled the game.
and gave eve-y satisfaction
