In the Folkething elections the Danes scored a great victory in SchI leswig, where only one German secured a seat. The Government secured 81 seats in the House and the Socialists and aßdicals 66. Customs returns show that the trade of France during the first eight months of 1920 largely increased compared with the corresponding period of 1919.» The value of exports increased by 8,663,000,000 francs, and the value of impor s was greater by 2,828,000,000 franc?. RIVER PLATE WOOL STAGNATES. eßceived 9.35 a.m. ANTWERP, Sept. 22. At the sales of River Plate wool 8783 bales were offered and only 665 were sold. SOCIALIST MEMBERS EXPELLED. FROM THE STATE LEGISLATURE. Received 9.35 a.m. NEW YORK, Sept. 22. The State Legislature at Albany, for the second time expelled five Socialist members on the ground of disloyalty and their anti-American sentiments during the war, Including their opposition to military training. These Socialists, last winter, after a sensational trial, were unseated. Large* sections of the press, notably the anti-Sociallstic, lamented the act on | the ground that it contravened the principles of deomcracy. The same
men received overwhelmingly, large ■ majorities' in bye elections held re- i ccntly, their constituencies being In j the notably Socialistic centres of New York city. The Legislature was' convened and again expelled the Social- ; ists during h stormy scene full of bit- | ter and vitriolic denunciation. j CANADA PENALISED ' i BY YANKEE EXCHANGE RATE, j Received 10.30 OTTAWA, Sept. 22. .At Sherbrooke, Quebec, Premier Meighcn said the main isstre at the next election would be a protective tariff for Canadian industries againsit free trade. He pointed out that increased home production and decrease in purchases from the United States was the only means of meeting tlio penaly of one hundred and ten million dollars which Canada loses annually through the adverse exchange rate with the United States.

SCIENTIFIC MEAT FREEZING. - IMPORTANT DISCOVERIES MADE. Received 9,15 a.m. WASHINGTON, Sept. 22. The \feat Committee of the Privy Council’s Committee for scientific and industrial research, report that .experiments have been completed proving that if certain precautions are taken beef can be frozen in such a way as to preserve completely the physical and chemical qualities of fresh meat. Experiments were carried out with small pieces of beef and all attemtps to repeat them on a Commercial scale has so far failed owing to want of adequate apartahs. Experiments in regard to the growth of blackspot on frozen meat show conclusively the fungus causing blackspot will grow and produce spores at five degrees chentigrade below freezing point. Several other fangi dev elope fairly well at freezing point.
