CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.

CONGRESS AT TORONTO

Received 11.15 a.m. OTTAWA Sept. 21

Mr F. J. Darling, of London, addressing the Congress of Chambers of Commerce ait: Toronto, suggested that a sound Empire exchange system might be established by a general is f sue of comparatively short term exchange bills against goods in transit and an Empire Bank acting as banker. The Empire Bank would have a central office in London and offices throughout the Empire. Mr Darling said that if Empire exchanges were made united, the whole endeavouring to supply their own wants and producing a surplus on the balance for repayment of the debt to America, the advantages to all parts of the Empire would be considerable.

The Congress discussed preferential trade within the Empire, and all the speakers favoured preference, though they pointed out many difficulties.

“Hasten now co make assurance doubly sure.” Wise words at this season, when winter's dire complaints threaten from every point. An emphatic assurance of immunity from lung complaints, chest troubles, coughs, colds, and influenza—a sure, safe remedy at all times. It has a rich, pleasant taste, and its soothing action never fails to stop the tickle and give ease to the sore throat. A wise plan is to keep a bottle always handy. Large size 2/6—at all chemists. A splendid selection of WHITE AND EMBROIDERED Voile Blouse; large roomy styles at The Big Value House, Collinson & Gifford, Ltd. Tested in thousands of kitchens, SHARLND’S Baking Powder has never failed to rise. Costs less than others—worth more. 1
