FOUND DEAD,
GREYMOUTH, Sept. 18.
A returned soldier, named Joseph Stubbs, aged twenty-one, was found dead last night in a hut a-t Kokiri near Greymouth, with a wound in his heart, A double-barrelled gun was ; alongside the body. JUMP GRAFTON BRIDGE. AUCKLAND. Sept. .18. 9 ■■ Corporal Sidney Gibson, late of the N.Z. Field Artillery, jumped over the parapet of Grafton Bridge this morning, breaking his neck. Deceased was a labourer working in 'the Rotorua district, and had no relatives in New Zealand.
FOOTBALL ACCIDENT. •

Playing for Winstdiies in a house football match, at Alexandra Park on Saturday afternoon, a lad named Alfred Murnby. who lives at 91, College Hill, had his collarbone badly fractured. He was also bruised about the head. Mimiby was taken to-the Hospital, where the bone was set.

GISBORNE. Sept. 18. *
. Harry Pri chard, whose depositions ,in connection with an alleged assault in a foundry were taken yesterday, died in the hospital this afternoon. An apprentice named Alexander Roderick Mcßae Willliams was arrested previous to the death of Pritchard on a charge of causing actual bodily harm. GISBORNE, This day. Alexander Roderick Mcßae' Williamson, aged 21, was charged at the Police Court to-day with the manslaughter of Harry Pritchard, and was remanked till 24th inst. r
CHINAMAN FOUND DEAD

An inquest was held to-day on the body of Sue Pin, an aged Chinaman, who was found dead in his hut at Blackball, near Ranfurly. The doctor said his opinion was that the mark on the forehead'.vas caused by deceased . falling and* striking some hard substance after hemorrhage of the brain had commenced
WOMAN HANG: HERSELF. AUCKLAND .Thtis Day. The body of a. young woman, Mrs. Ruth Crowe, wife of Mr. J. M 7 Crowe, a packer, was found hanging in an outside -tff [their residence "at" (ftrey Lynn yesterday. The body was cut down, but life was extinct. Both the deceased and her husband had been suffering from influenza, the former for about, a fortnight, Mrs. Crowe appeared to be recovering, and yesterday was able to get out of bed. She was at the bedside of her husband, who was in a critical!! state, until noon and went outside a little later. Shortly afterwards, her body was discovered by her sister-in-law. Mr. Crowe was yesterday conveyed to the hospital in a serious condition. OLD LADY BJJ.RNEU. PALMERSTON N., Sept. 39. A four-roomed house, owned and occupied by Wilhelmina Scbianaclj aged 83, was totally destroyed by fire at 1 o'clock this morning. The*outbreak was di9Corered by neighbours, "who rescued the occupant by breaking a window. She waa severely n Mrnt about the neck and haods and removed to the hospital. The cause of the fire is attributed to a defective chimney.
BOY INJURED BY DETONATOR. PALMERSTON N., Sept. 18. Harry Hewitt, 15 years, employed afc a basket factory, had his left thumb and. forefinger blown off by the explosion of a detonator.
MISHAP ON "STEAMER
AUCKLAND, Sept 13,
During the voyage of the Port Napier from New York, an explosion occurred amongst the benzine cargo. The vessel arrived at Panama next day, when the hatches were removed and a portion of the cargo was unloaded. During these operations four stevedores were overcome b/ 'the fumes, but recovered. No material
was sustained by the vessel and no fire resulted from ]the «plosion. MOTOR FATALITY. NELSON, Sept. 19. A mo';or car containing Charles Herbert Butters, traveller tor an Auckland firm, his wife and child, fell over an embankment on Washington Road yesterday afternooa. Mrs But ers was killed, but the other s were unhurt. A steep bit of roacTwas the scene of the accident, and Butcers was backing down hill to Change gears. The brakes refused to act. Deceased was 26 years of age, and had been only two years out from England.
