A TAIHAPE HOSPITAL DAY?
An attempt is to be made to inaugurate an annual Hospital Day in
Taihape. bringing this town into conformity with other towns throughout the British Empire in which, for many years past, a day has been set apart for special consideration of those amongst us who are so unfortunate enough as to need that special medical and surgical attendance which- is only attainable in well-equipped hos-
pital's. These Hospital, days, former"ly iield on Sundays, chiefly came into vogue by almost universal consent in various centres 1 in which they are still observed. It is beyond denial that Taihape people Lave done their part
in furnishing this' great district with
a hospital, but there are thousands of people in the district now who woull I welcome the opportunity to annually contribute a small sum towards the upkeep of that standard of hospital excellence the largely increased and more populous Taihape territory now needs if only ordinary humane consideration is to be given to the sick and injured in their midst. The subject is,not being referredpto here for the purpose of urging people -o contribute, because it is a foregone conclusion from the widespread enthusiasm about the adoption of a Hospital Saturday, that - such an institution would prove unqualifiedly successful. In mentioning the object of the proposal" to have an annual hospital-day our object is to make the matter as publicly widespread as possible. It is something that every member' of the community can take part in whether rich or poor, man, woman or dhild. Tnto ■'he collection box can go the widows' mite, the child's penny as well as the richer man's ten pound note. However, the idea of a Hospital day is the taking of a collection in which everyone may participate, and as such" day s have proved, not only acceptable but immensely popular throughout the Empire, there is no valid reason why Taihape should not be constituted another link in the hospital chain. K is earnesly hoped that the puKj
meeting called for Thursday evening-, 30th September, will be an enthusiastic gathering, for the sick and injured amongst u s have the first claim upon our consideration and assistance.
