SUMS WRITTEN OFF
SLING CAMP RIOT EXPENSES. Some interesting items appear in a statement issued by the Auditor-Gen-eral, showing sum? required to be written off Departmental accounts. This statement accompanies the Audit-or-General's annual report. The Ordnance Service has been unable to allocate responsibility for losses of certain stores, clothing and equipment in military districts, and the following sums have been written off: Wellington military district, £14,757; Auckland vmilitary district, £9006; Canterbury military district, £2532. The loss of stores- and clothing to the value of £274 at Trentham and Featherston military camps is attributed to disorganisation brought about by the influenza,epidemic. "Tnabil'iFy to allocate .responsibility for loss to individuals concerned" is the reason given for writing off a sum of £5272 in respect of damage done by New Zealand troops at Sling Camp on March 14th and 15th, 1019.

The State Coal Mines Depot in Wellington jhas written off a sum of £BBI for ''coal short at year ended March 31st, 1920," and another sum of £143 for a shortage of coke in the same period. The Repatriation Department had written off a sum of £786 in resoeet of loans to returned soldeirs who have left the eountry. failed in business, suffered loss by fire or died.
