DISMANTLING OF HELIGOLAND. The dismantling of the Heligoland forts is now practically complete. The work has- been exceptionally tedious and difficult, and involved 'the use of up-to-date methods, including oxy-aeetylene, plant, for cutting through the massive steel turrets in which the big guns were mounted. A British naval officer who was present during part of (the work tail's an English correspondent that; the batteries had been sited and built with great skill, but that the curious mixture of calibres must have made fire control rather difficult. The main reliance seems to have Been placed on 12ln. and B.2in high velosity naval guns and ; Min howitzers. A German petty officer confessed ruefully to this officer that only three .rounds had been fired from the batteries during the whole war.
