A PICKLE MISS.
The arrival at New York of the French steamship La Savoie from Havre brought to light a tragi-comedy one of a long series of occurrences arising out of the betroihall of American soldiers \vi h French and English girls. Waiting at the landing stage was Mr Ray Hewlett, a former sergeant of the A.E.F., who had eft his business at Findlay, Ohio, o welcome his fiancee. Mile. EmJliienne Remeuf. But the beautiful French girl, instead of receiving his embrace, presented to him Mr Nicola Rasps, a tenor singer, who during the voyage had gained her heart, by his singing. Mr Hewlett dramatically refused to recognise Mr Rasps, and vociferously demanded that the girl must fulfil her promise to marry him. After, a melodrama ric. scene Mile. Romeuf consented to defer her final decision for Two days, and for that period accepted the hospitality of the Travellers’ Aid Society.
