AUCKLAND TRAM STRIKE.
THE UNION * PROSECUTED. AUCKLAND. Sept. S. The Inspector of Awards claimed from the Auckland Tramways Union, at 1. -he Magistrate’s Court tins morning, a penalty of £250. The grounds of the claim ware that on 3rd, Ith, 5 h, (3th, and 7th days of June 1920, or on one or more of such days, Hie defundents did incite, instigate, and, or abet an unlawful strike within the meaning of the Labour~Dispii‘ties Investigation Act 1913; also that they did incite, instigate or assist certain persons, to wit niembo-s of the defendant union, to become parties ro an unlawful »Tike. Mr. Hunt appeared for the Department and Mr. Sullivan for the Union. Mr. Hun 1 said an adjournment would be necessary, as an important witness (Mr. Walkin'v. manager of the Tramway Department), was unable to at end owing to having undergone an operation. Mr. Sullivan said r wa« important to have a special day fixed when the ease was certain o be gone on with. He had witnesses in attendance from Wellington and r might be necessary to subpoena 400 members of the Tramways Union. Mr. Poyn on fixed the hearing for Wednesday, 22nd inst.
