FOOTBALLERS AND MONEY.. v RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM’S COST., “That is not my idea of sport.’” said Mr. H. S. W. King, Mayor of Devouport, when a letter was read to* the Domain Board last evening from Dcvonport United Football Club, stating the Taumaruuui (King Oountry)team proposed to play at Dcvonport “if they can receive a percentage of the gate money.” The local club's communication staled that when application was made recently to charge for admission on two'consecutive Saturdays this month, the secretary* omkted to apply for a third Sa'urday. The Taumarunui team desired half the gate money ruo meet travelling expenses. If they could not receive a percentage they could not play. Mr. King added that he did not care very much for that kind of thing. A. he same time the Board had granted permission to charge on the other two Saturdays, and therefore he wou.il not • oppose the application. They musk however, ’lake care not tothat concession too often. Permission was given as requested..
