RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY^JSETING. The monthly me., ing of the Eangitikei Count}- Council was held on Thursday. „ There were present: Crs. B. P. Lethbridge (chairman), A. G. Simpson, W. Doole, F. R. H. Brice, R. Brown, J. Brice. • The following business of local interest was dealt with: — CORRESPONDENCE. The Railway Department wro c. forwarding copy of agreement regarding the Ohingaiti ballast pit siding. The Prime Minister wrote, stating that he had referred the Council’s request that the Board of Trade regulations for the eTJntro 1 of the distribution of cement, bricks and timber should be amended by exempting dwelling houses, to the president of the Board of Trade (Hon. Mr. Lee). The Hon. Mr. Lee wrote, in connection with the above, s ating that ],bcal authorities are empowered by the Board of Trade to issue permits for tlfe erec.ion of works indicated without, reference to the Board. The Public Works Department wrote, forwarding authority for a grant of £578 (£ for £) for metalling the Mataroa to Euanui Eoad (Ledward’s to Duncan’s and Duncan’s o Collier’s Junction.) The Taihape Borough. Council wrote regarding the apportionment of heavy traffic license fees between the Borough Council and the County Council. It was decided to reply that the Council was prepared to come to an arrangement with tha Taihape Bor,ough Council on the matter. Samuel Bunning wrote, objecting to> his land being included!!! special rating district for proposed loan of £lO, 000,. for Mananui, Kaweka, and Eidge Roads. It was decided to reply that the matte? would be dealt with when the loan proposed came before thlie Council. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer '(Mr,-Sydney A. R. Mair) reported as follows: — Te Kapua Riding. —Several roads' have been blocked by slips, but work of repairs is well in hand. Gravel repairs on Murray’s Track have - been completed. Euanui Ridhg.—Roads are in fair order for the season. Ballast train is still dumping mei.al at Taurangarere, and Booth’s siding, 1665 cubic yards going out- during the month. Large culvert ‘has been renewed on Mataroa Road. Erewhon Riding.—Sawmill traffic has continued on Taihape-Waiaui Road though the sa-wpiiller was notified to 'cUse till fine weather. This road wiH now- .require considerably more repairs. The mill teams have carried out some maintenance when weather w r as fit for carting, and the sawmiller proposes to erect a mill about five miles further out, and I have warned him that he will be required to indemnify the Council against damage to road. With the chairman Councillo - Doole I waited on the Mihister for' Pubic Works re ..subsidy on proposed loan works! The Minister gave us a very 'favourable hearing. We also ascertained that there is every reason to believe monies are now available for proposed loan, and I think it is advisable to proceed at once with the poll, to enable a start to be made with the preliminary work. Purchase of necessary machinery should Joe included in loan proposals, Awarua Riding.—Numerous ' slips have been reported, but repair work is well in hand. Poor progress has been made wrh contracts on Kotukuraeroa Road during the month. Widening points orf: Ultiku-Mangaweka Road is progressing fairly well.
