An American oil tanker, the Eastern Marina, was driven ashore in Manila Bay. JAPS. IN CALIFORNIA. Received 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Sept. 3. Californian officials are most indignant at the reports that the Federal Government intends to take action to defeat the November referendum for strengthening the anti-Japanese Land Law. The officials threaten serious consequences if the Federal authorities interfere. " SUBMARINE IN TROUBLE. SUBMERGED FOR FORTY HOURS. Received 9.5~a7m. NEW YORK, Sept. 3. A wireless message received at New York states that the American submarine S 5 has been submerged for more than forty hours in twentyeight fathoms of water off Delaware Capes. The crew of thirty-seven are still living, and two ships are landing by pumping air into the submarine. Naval vessels are rushing to the scene with equipment, with which it is hoped to release the crew. BILLIARDS.* Received 9.5 a.m. v LONDuN, Sept. 3.
