THE PUKEKAWA MURDER. PUKEKOHE, Sept. 2. An inquest concerning the death of Sidney Seymour who was murdered at Pukekawa, was to-day adjourned indefinitely by the Coroner, Mr R. F. Webster. ALLEGED FORGERY OF A WILL. DUNEDIN, Aug. 2. Three well-known residents of Ophir, William Charles Pitches (hotelkeeper), Hugh. Mac Alister (stock inspector), and William White (labourer) were charged before the Police Court at Clyde to-day with forging a will in. favour of William White, one of the and purporting to he the will of a deceased person, George Reaper. In. evidence for the prosecution it was sought to show that Pitches wrote out the will, signed it as a witness, got White to forge Reaper’s name, and arranged with Mac Alister to sign as a witness. 49 . The accused reserved their defence and were committed for trial. In fixing heavy bail ? the magistrate,Mr E. C. Levvy, remarked that the alleged offence was a very serious one and punishable by life imprisonment. HARBOUR FOR GISBORNE. 'W- GISBORNE, This day. The Hick’s Bay Harbour Board has resolved that, an eminent engineer be appointed to prepare a comprehensive harbour scheme for Hick’s Bay, to accommodate the largest boat that will run in the trade with New Zealand; also a smaller scheme to provide for the requirements of "the tfis-. trict for years to come. •/' - v v DIVORCE PETITION GRANTED. WELLINGTON. This day. Before the Chief Justice, to-day Mr s C. E Mackay, of Wanganui, was granted a divorce from her husband on the grounds of adultery. The case was heard in camera.'' LOCAL BODIES’ CONFERENCE. ' HAWERA‘This day. A largely attended conference of local bodies’ executive officers, representing engineers and clerks of Borough Councils, County Councils, Hospital Boards, Harbour Boards,, and Town and Road Boards throughout Taranaki and Wanganui, unanimously decided to form a Dominion Local Bodies Executive Officers’ Association. A representative committee of engineers and clerks was and it ig intended to circularise the officers of all local bodies throughout tlio Dominion. The objects of Hip new Association include greater efficiency in local bodies administration, adequate payment for services, and recognition of the responsibilities of officers.
