Whilst driving- home on Friday evening with his wife and family, Mr. Bert Aplin sustained a severe injury, to his arm by being thrown out of the gig, the accident being caused by the horse stumbling. Mr. Alpin received surgical treatment, but wil'l be unable :o work for some time.

At a meeting of the King Counti\ sawmil'l and timber workers, held at Raetihi, the following resolution was passed:—"That this representative meeting of workers of Raetihi and surrounding district do hereby support and endorse the action of the N.Z. Labour Party in cabling to the Committee of Action in England approving of the necessary and timely intervention to prevent the outbreak of war, and we beUieve Mr. J. R. Clynes when he says that if Government is unable to prevent war the people will have to prevent it for them."

At the Empire Timber Exhibi.ion, organised by the Board of Trade to advertise in the United Kingdom the extent and variety of the Empire's forest wealth, opened in London last month, there were about 800 different woods on exhibition. Many were practically unknown in England, though of great beauty and commercial value. India made the most attractive individual display. Among the specimens from her forests were the shishan wood (used in building ' Solomon's temple), Anderman marble wood, black walnut, and many other kinds, of which strikingly beautiful furniture has been made. India has almost unlimited supplies of timber.

A case, stated to be the first of its kind! in England, was heard at Bournemouth, when Reginald Edmund Tollerfield, an air pilot employed by the Bournemouth Aviation Company, was summoned under the Air Navigation Regulations* for flying 100 low and doing trick flying .iver Biurnemiuth. Two E.A.F. officers said they saw Tobberfield flying over the town 500 ft to 600 ft up. and doing the Immelmann turn, a lightning air manoeuvre called after the German "hawk" pilot of that name. Tollerman said the turn was not trick flying, but a quick way of swerving. He denied that he could not have landed safely if his engine had failed. He was fined £SO.

Residents living in the vicinity of Curran Street beach, Pinsinby, were

amazed yesterday morning at seeing a man rushing wildly down Curran St., towards the beach, crying out as he went. At the concrete steps leading down to the beach he fell injuring his head and leg, but picking himself up lie hurried on across the sand and into the harbour. With amazing rapidity he gained deep water. Realising that something was tnfly amiss a party setoff in a boat and rescued th eman, still in an' excited state. It appears that he is a returned soldier, and is evidently suffering from, the effects of shell-shock. After rescue he was admitted to the hospital.
