Since tlie return of the British Labour delegation which went to study Bolshevism at first hand in Russia, labour forces in Britain have increasingly exhibited a revulsion of feeling and'attitude to Bolshevik propaganda. The Babour Delegates to Russia were, on arrival in the land of Bolshevism, shown aro.und a set, and limited number of places, including the Polish front, but even the most unreasonable British supporters of Bolshevism in England, who accompanied the delegation, were not deceived. They saw Bolshevism as it is, and were disappointed; their advocacy of the cult has cooled down; it is lacking in vim, in conviction, and it is the ignominy attaching thereto which is holding many back from making a clean breast of the whole disappointing, degrading thing. Mrs Snowden, one of the best orators in England, has seen and investigated Bolshevism, the real thing as it is in Russia, and she can no longer urge that the “peaceful persuasion” of Lenin offers the best means of thorough emancipation for labour. Mr Masseyfs claim in the House, made recently, that only a small section of British and New Zealand labour bad been hypnotised by the new messiah of Moscow, is abundantly substantiated, in Britain’s case, by recently received British newspapers which have hitherto supported, sub rosa, the idea of internationalisation of mankind in accordance with the Lenin process. Lenin’s message to British Labour met with a rebuff that must have given a great surprise to the Bolshevik! and particularly to Lenin himself. A conference composed of all the leading men in’ British Labour ranks very signally turned Lenin, as represented in his message, down, leavig no room for misconception. The Conference regarded the message as impertinent, and one British journal, supporting extreme labour, stated that, the Conference, in effect said, “Damn your impudence.” British Labour realised that Lenin had himself admitted that Russia could not continue to exist unless the .organisation of the country ig based upon the method employed by the governing system which his one purpose is to destroy. But it is not Mrs Snowden, the, greatest socialist hope, that is alone, rattling the rottenness of Bolshevism, Mr Tom Shaw asked the Conference this very pertinent question:- —“What is the use.of pretending that Bolshevism does not mean violence.” It is very generally acknowledged since the Home-coming of the Delegation to Russia, where it made a first-hand study of Leninism, that violence; that bloodshed—murder, assassination and internecine war —is the meat and drink of Bolshevism, without it Bolshevism falls flat to the earth. As it is. said members of the Conference, Lenin started in a country where unsurpassed stores of food existed and he now has the diet reduced to herring and linseed oil. Mr Tom Shaw repeated at the Conference the Russian opinion that “certain leaders of International Socialism should bo imprisoned],” an t ] it is stated by hitherto semi-Bolshevik newspapers, that Shaw’s statement did more than all appeals ’to convince that “Red Rule in England was certainly not the ideal of which young men saw visions and old men dreamed dreams.’ ’ The difference between socialism and anarchy is being forced upon popular notice by Lenin and the

few anarchists who still favour his saying of the world by murder, assassination and robbery; at Teast, the vast majority of British labour is no $ longer mesmerised by Lenin, which truth the resolution adopted by'The Conference abundantly proves. After attentively listening to what their Delegates to Russia had to say “the great Labour Conference by a majority of twelve to one defeated the proposal to join the Moscow International, that machine by which Lenin seeks to conquer the world.- Lenin met with defeat in BritainT it would be interesting to know just how far the report of the Russian Delegation influenced the Leninites in the New Zealand party for or against a continuance of Russian Bolsheviki methods in this Dominion. Of course, for Lenin to admit defeat would mean his forced exit and the collapse of internationalism, but this orgy of violence and robbery m> anarchist will be disposed to surrender after having achieved success in Russia. They will have, if possible, the pleasure of murdering, ravishing, robbing throughout the British Empire as their brother anarchists have done In the Russian Empire, anfl will view with anarchic pride their work in having reduced 1 citizens of the great British Empire to living upon herrings and linseed oil. To avoid anything worse than •the world already has cognisance, of in connection with the Moscow messiah’s methods of internationalisation, there must be no slackening of opposing forces. Lenin and his Anarchic supporters have been rendered desperate with the rebuff from British Labom’, and with the failure of their military efforts to Sovietise Poland by conquest and the same old orgy of \ murder and oppression practiced elsewhere. They have been defeated but not discouraged; as English journals 1 state, “they will continue their subterranean propaganda, for which they use up all financial resources that they can lay hands upon.” No informed person in England was surprised at the turn taken at- the Labour Party Conference, held at Scarborough. for it had for some time been evident that real labour men had the limit of their patience with the growing tendency of Revolutionary axe-grinders to use the Trade Union movement as a convenient stepping stone to internationalism In accordance with the Moscow messlab’s revolutionary, anarchic methI ods. In New Zealand, as in Britain, it will require all that sane labour can 1 do to prevent, the small army of anarchic mischief-makers'from exploiting Labour in thd* interests of every impossible cause. By sane Labour we mean all Labour, that immense preponderance of Labour force, that is free from the taint of anarchy and revolution. It need scarcely "be remarked that New Zealand Labour will never become anarchic and violently revolutionary, but the greatest caution is needful in avoiding the enmeshments that are so adroitly and craftily being cast about the Labour cause. The great Labour Conference at Scarborough, after having given exhaustive consideration to the statements of the Labour Delegates who investigated Bolshevism in Russia, in the hotbeds of Bolshevism, has defeated, by a majority of twelve to one. the proposal to adopt Lenin’s international socialism. Labour by twelve to one has definitely declared that Bolshevism, Lenin’s internationalism, is not socialism at all, but that it is the most hgllish form of anarchy and bloody revolution the most degraded instincts of man is capable of, any they, by twelve to one, turn it down.
