AN ACTIVE “DRUNK.”

A timber-feller’s feat in climbing the steeple of Idridgehay church, Drbyshire, was mentioned by the police at Wirksworth, during- th hearing- of a charge against the man (Samuel Caulwell), of dronkenness. When at the top of the steeple, it was said, he took off Eis waistcoat, containing his watch, and threw it down. On descending, he offered to repeat the feat for more drink. The defence was that he couM not have performed the exploit had he been drunk, but the magistrate imposed a small fine.
