THE EAST COAST WRECK?
GISBORNE, This day. Mr Graham, manager of RoTotaJii station, confirms the statement of McCrae and Williams as to having, with his sons, seen on Sunday morning arid again in the afternoon a large steamer in distress. The fact that she was such a distance out to sea and so low in the water would probably account for the Arahura and Monowai passing her Avithout noticing anything. The watchers on the land, being at a height of about 1500 feet, were naturally able to see * great distance further than from the sea level. Mr. Graham says the vessel was visible as long as dayligftt lasted. . It is understood that the Kia Ora was not in the vicinity, but had gone to Hicks Bay for shelter.
