IN BOLSHEVIK HANDS.

A NAVAL LIEUTENANT'S EXPERIENCES. Lieutenant Bremner. R.N.. who was •wounded, in the naval .raid on Kronstadt in August. 1919. and fell into fne hands of the Bolsheviks, gave a description of his experiences to a representative ofTtteutei 's Agency while in hospital in London. His account of the Bolsheviks' thirst for information, and the methods by which they endeavoured to extort it is particularly interesting. The Bolsheviks have evidently copied the American "third degree" method, which consists in a prolonged bombardmenjt of questions delivered, in the hope that the unfortunate victim will be. goaded into blurting out some important fact. INQUISITION.

"When Lieut. Bremner 's motor boat was sunk he was taken on board a Bolshevik destroyer. His subsequent adventures he describes as' follows: — "We were taken to the Kronstad Naval Hospital, where our wounds were again attended to. Four of us were detained in the hospital, and the other four were sent to the office of the Commander of Kronstadt. Lieutenant Napier and the other survivors were taken to the office of the Commandant of Kronstadt, where they were placed in a room with four guards, and forbidden to talk to' each other. . "~

)'- * l Lieutenant: Napier was then questioned for about three hours continuously. They were given some black bread and soup. The men. were also questioned, but they answered with such nonsense that the Bolsheviks quickly gave up the examination. The officers were again' continuously questioned until about 2 a.m. THEEAT OF CHINESE TOKTUEE. "One of the officers was told that his answers were most unsatisfactory, and threatened with Chinese torture if he did not answer properly. He was feeling very done up at the time, and •was lying with his head on his arms on. the table, and he merely raised his head and said. "You can do what you b well like." After a trying experience in Pet.rograd. and subsequently in Moscow, Lieut. Bremner was repatriated along with other British prisoners.
