RURAL MAIL DELIVERIES.

WELLINGTON. August. 17. Answering an enjuiry by Mr. Hockly regarding rural mail deliveries, the Postmaster-General said contracts were being invited at present for only 12 months, .as the Secretary of the Postal Department had 'been instructed to visit Canada to investigate the excellent rural mail service in operation there. Canada had made a special! study of tliis subject, and it was stated gave greater conveniences in this direction than any other part of the world. With the information obtained, it was hoped to inaugurate a cheaper and better rural service. He would give instructions that the contacts now beimr.cnPed would make provisions for twelve months for services at least equal to those enjoyed previously.
