I The New York Smi’s description of the American battle Cnlisers Saratoga and United States as being armed with 18in. guns is apparently erroneous. In all six ships of this class are tbuiiding, the other fmir being named \Lenington_ I-(anger. Consteliatziomand Constitution. and the design is ‘identical for the six. The latest issue of an official publi cation by the United States Navy Depaitmexit gives the armanient of each vessel as eight. 16in. guns, with a -sec ondary b-.-,itel'_v‘ of Sixteen. ‘iiin. They are 874 ft iong. 43,500 fops displacement. and have :1 speed of 33$ knots, and are therefore larger and faster than H.M.S. Hood.
