FOOTBALL.
3STOTES ON SATURDAY'S PLAY. (By Onlooker). 2t Taihapc -cam showed considerabWimprovement on'the previous Saturday's game but theFe is ill room for a little more improvement with the backs in sending out the ball. Our backs should try and gain "a little experience from Ford, of the Horowhenua team, who, when re'aciy to pass 'the bell, didn't wait, to look 'to see if his next man was' waiting but shot it out quick and busy. Of the players. Bennett showed much improvement on his previous Saturday's game but is still a bit inclined to run into the forwards. Dockery and Collier both played well and made good use of the ball when it came their way. Ongley played much better at centre and showed some of his old brilliancy. McAuliffe and Cowie (five-eighths) both played well, getting the ball away quickly. This combination worked much better together than the players in the previous match. Eose played good football, getting the ball away quickly from the scrum, and his defence work was also very solid. He is undoubtedly a young player with a good future. Wing Hea'ey played his usual good game. Unfortunately he got a nasty kick in the knee" early in the game, which took a bit of Hhe sting out' of Mm. Of the forwards: A good pack and quite justified their position. Batley, Tuke, Murphy, were probably the best, being prominent in many good rushes. Sinclair, and O'Connell easily outgeneraled their opponents' hooking, gelting the ball out at nearly every serum.
It is rumoured that several players are required by th"e Wanganui Union to play at Wanganui on Saturday against Manawatu. If so "On'ooker" would like to renr'nd these players of the Southern tour and hopes Ithey will play themselves into the team on tour.
