human consumption. He wanted to know what action the Imperial Department intended to take. Mr. Massey replied that; he had not heard about the watersiders' action, but what the Imperial Supplies department did was to send back to the freezing 1 works some meat which was mouldy. A portion, which had been shipped, was 'taken off for return to the works, where suitable portions would be canoed and the rest boiled down for tallow. Not a single carcase would be allowed to be shipped unless it was perfectly soamd.

Mr D. C. Webster, who for some time past has filled the position of Clerk of the Court at Taihape, has resigned, and has accepted a position with the Public Trust at Wellington. His position here will be filled by Mr H. W. Brown, of Wanganui.
A fatal accident occurred on Friday .afternoon, when Mr James Symes, Wanganui, manager and traveller for the Vacuum Oil Co., was killed at Waverley, the New Plymouth express running into his motor ear at a crossing. Mr Symes was thirty-nine year s of ago, and leaves a wife and three children. He came from Dunedin a year ago. The secretariat of the League of Nations announces that the subjects to be discussed at the meeting of the Council of the League which commenced at San Sebastian on July 30', include: The co-ordination of measures to apply the blockade as a weapon of the League; the creation of an international permanent bfjalth organisation; and the best methods of applying the dispositions of the Covenant in connection with the administration of ex-German overseas possessions by mandatory - Powers.
