POLICE DOG’S CAPTURE.
The value of a dog as auxiliary to a police patrol was demonstrated at Hull by the appearance in Court of a labourer named Robert Gill, charged with theft from a vessel in Victoria Docks. Gill was seen leaving a ship in the early morning, and two dock police, being susp'cions, cal ed on him to stop.
The man darted away, but the police slipped the leash from a trained Airedale terrier, which quickly overtook the thief and held him, but without using its teeth, until tbe constables arrived. Gill denied that he had committed a theft, but the audible ticking of a clock in his pocket provided very tangible proof, and ho ultimately admitted breaking into the cabin.
