LAND FOR SOLDIERS.
BLOCK AT OHINGAITI ACQUIRED
The secretary of the Taihape and District Returned Soldiers' Association has that the Government has decided to acquire the goodwill of a native lease at Ohingaiti, totalling 1150 acres. The" land is comprised in the Otamakapua Block, on the opposite side of the river from Ohingaiti, and is practically all flat and suitable for dairying and for cultivation. The present lessee is Mr E. McGregor, and the land was applied* for. on behalf of nine returned soldiers, seven of whom belong to Tfnhape. The soldiers will take the lease of the land for 36£ years, and they are all very keen on the prospect of getting a start for this season. In order to facilitate matters, a meeting of the nine applicants will be held at Ohingaiti on Saturday next, 7th August, when they will decide on the matter of taking possession. Those soldiers who have applied for sections in this block should notify the secretary of the Taihape R.S.A. immediately if they can attend the meeting at Ohingaiti on Saturday mornig next, leaving here by the early train.
The acquisition of this block is largely due to the efforts of Mr S. A R. Mair, Rangitikei County Engineer TAIHAPE PROPERTY ACQUIRED.
The property of Messrs McCarten Bros, at Kawhatau. totalling about 1600 acres of good sheep land, has p.lso been acquired on behalf of four returned soldiers.
