] GOVERNMENT’S DIFFICULT | PROBLEM. j WELLINGTON, July 28. i On the subject of Hindu and Chinese immigiaition, the Prime Minister gave a definite undertaking to-day that legislation would be introduced this session. At, the same time, lie said, it uas a most difficult matter ito deal with.. He had a draft Bill on his table, but •he wa§ not sure if when the House passed it it would give them what they j wanted. Many Chinese coming to the | Dominion were from Hongkong and i therefore British subjects, and the I Hindus wore all British" subjects and | entitled to certain privileges. There ( was a possibility also that they would J have to get Imperial assent to any i Bill they passed. j Mr Witty: ‘ ‘ They may not agree j to it?” Mr Massey: 1 ‘They will agree to .something.” The Government was j aware of the nature of the problem j and was doing s"s best to find a j remedy
