BIG HANDICAP SHOOT,

There was a large attendance of spectators and competitors on Behan’s Hill yesterday, when the Awarua Gun Club held its big handicap shoot The competitors numbered forty, and the results of the day’s events are as follows : ' £IOO HANDICAP. E. R. King (Pukemiro) 19yds, with 15 birds' out of a possiblelS., 1 N. Crabb (Marton) 12yds and H. A.Belk (Ohutu) 10yds tied for second and third with 14 birds each and divided. C. A. Timbs (Taihape) 16yds, with 13 birds 4

Sweepstake (9 birds): E. R. King (Pukemiro), Dobson (Auckland), A. Winger (Taumarunui), H. Belk (Ohutu), J Fawcett (Te Kuiti), J. Thurston (Taihape), and N. P. Spooner (Taihape) all tied with nine birds each, and divided £3O. In the shootoff for the balance of the stake, Dobson and Thurston tied with 8 birds each and divided.

Sweepstake (10 birds): E. R. King,. Duncan Fraser, B. Quarterman, A. Dobson, and A. Winger tied with ten each, and divided £2O. Dobson and Fraser shot-off for the balance of the stake and tied and divided. The visiting gunners were highly appreciative of the day’s sport and the arrangements made for .them. Some of them expressed the hope that one day the New Zealand championship would, be decided here_ Marton, Mangaweka ’and Taihape Clubs are discussing a proposal to hold a series of big handicaps in one week, and if this is done the circuit should attract a large number of competitors in the three events.

The catering arrangements were in the capable hands ef Mr T. Shute, and gave every satisfaction. The secretary. Mr E. McLanghlan, had a busy day. and his efforts were largely responsible for the great sporting and financial success' of the gathering. The club is to be congratulated on the success it has achieved, and the fact that all parts of the Island were Represented at. the shoot is sufficientencouragement for the club to put on further big handicaps.
