THE AIR DERBY.

GREAT CROWDS WATCH RACE. 1 ’ LONDON, July 24. Great Crowds witnessed the start and. finish of the aerial Derby. Points of vantage along the course were also thronged, particularly Epsom Downs. The weather was unsettled. The wind was strong, but the visibility was good. There were fifteen starters. The limit men, including Hanuuorsley and Hinck’er, wore on Baby A vims. They had such a long start that they completed the first circuit before the highest powered smarted. F. Courtney, on a 300 h.p. Martynside, won the Derby, averaging 153 J miles

hourly. The handicap resulted;—Hammersley 1, Hinckler 2, Courtney 3. Hammersley won the 1919 handicap.

HAWKER DISQUALIFIED

Courtney made a bad landing his machine hitting the ground heavily and turning somersault. The pilot crawled out uninjured. Hawker, who vras third, reached the aerodrome in the handicap, but was disqualified for taking a wrong course.

The Foreign Minister, Uchida, declared to-day a conference might be necessary at Tohio in order to discuss conditions in China. Uchida said he did not fear at present the civil war in China would spread throughout the country, but, he added, Japan was fully prepared to act no matter what happened, COMPLETE COLLAPSE OF ANFU CAUSE. PEKING, July 23. The Anfu cause has collapsed. Its news agencies and newspapers are H-, quidating. Many of its leaders have sought refuge in the homes of foreign friends. The debacle is complete.
