POST AND TELEGRAPH RATES.

SUBSTANTIAL INCREASES. The Postmaster General announces the following alteration of postage and telegraph charges, which will come into force on August 1: —

Letters and letrercards: Inland from lid for 4oz. to 2d for 2oz. To Australia, United Kingdom, United States, and certain other countries, from lid to 2d.

Postcards: Inland from. Id to lJd; late fee from Id to 2d,

Packets (comprising commercial papers,- books and printed papers, pattern and sample packets’, and unregistered magazines):—lnland from Id for first 2oz. and Id for each additional 2oz. to lid for each 4oz up to lib. Registered magazines: Inland Australia, Fiji, and certain islands in the Pacific, new rates 2d for each copy if not exceeding Boz and 2d for each additional Soz or fraction thereof. Newspapers: Inland, from Jd to Id, fee for registration from 2d to 3d. Inland parcels from 4ld to Gd for first pound; fee for insurance of parcels inland 2d to 3d' up to £2. Private letter boxes: From £1 to £1 10/ per annum. Private mail bags from £2 to £2 10/ per annum. Money orders: New rates by post payable in New Zealand, Id each for £l, with minimum of 6d. Payable beyond New Zealand (except in Australia, United States of America or Canada), Gd for each £l. Payable in United States of America and Canada, 5d for each '2/-. By telegraph, payable in New Zealand, same as by post, plus telegraph fee of 1/6 if sent by ordinary telegram, or 3/ if sent by urgent telegram. Payable in United Kingdom, same as by post, plus cabling fee. Domestic order’s 9d each, in-* eluding delivery fee.

Postal notes: —New commission rates: lip to 2/6, 3d; 3/ to 15/, 2d; 20/, 3d. Inland ' ordinary telegrams: —New rates; Week days, 1/- for first twelve words, and Id for each additional word; urgent telegrams double rates; Sunday and public holidays, double rates; registration of code addresses increase from 30/ to £3 per annum.
