A number of Wellington, business men who have secured coal rights near Taihia will visit Otorohanga 6rT Saturday next for the purpose of commencing coal mining operations on'the proparty. The coal is believed to be of good quality, the Government analysis being very favourable. The company •propose to erect a tramway from the locality of the proposed mine to the Main Trunk line near CTtorohanga, a distance of six miles. The right to "squat" on a small section at the Hamilton East cemetery was granted some years ago by the Hamilton Borough Council to a certain person, and o*u Tuesday he applied to the Council to give him some better form of tenure. A flippant member suggested that the only way for the applicant to secure the freehold was to die. Another member remarked that the applicant evidently wanted to pass on his interest. The Council decided that at present it could not grant the squatter any fixture of tenure. At the Masterton Pigfeon Shooting Match, held this week, Mr Cyril Timbs, of the Taihape Gun Club came within an ace of winning the £l2O match. Mr Timbs shot all his birds, "but one fell on the fence and bounced outside the limit, riddled with shot. The width of that wire fence meant a difference of £l2O to Mr Timbs, to say nothing of the honour of winning so important a match. The thirteenth was the unlucky bird. At Masterton Mr Timbs met several of New Zealand's best shots, wlro have signified their intention of being present at the Taihape match on Tuesday, 27th July.
