EXTENSION OF ELECTRIC LIGHT.
ENGINEER'S REPORT. The electrical engineer (Mr A. Thomson) submitted the following report to the Borough Council on Friday; night with regard to extension of the electric light:— "I' hereby submit a report and eSi timate of cost of extending the mains for the purpose of supplying current; to Messrs. Nathan, Galvin, Kelly, Ben* nett, and Hall. I have considered the possibility of making the extensions from Kaka Road, but it is out of the question to do so, on account of The | distance, and the present mains not being of sufficient size to carry the enri rent. The only alternative is to make | ihe extension from Kiwi Koad, and ; T have estimated the cost accordingly. I 1 would point out that if it is decided to go on with this work, it would be necessary to alter the roadway to allow some of the poles to be placed ihe required distance from the boundary fence. This would mean cutting away an embankment for a distance of about three chains, and making the centre of the road equidistant front .the boundary fences on each side. The expense of doing so, and also the < ; "st of erecting the line would hard\v warrant this extension, for so small a number of consumers, and I would suggest "that it be held over in the moantime until the loan for electric lino Gxifensions be carried.' 7 The estimate accompanying the -e----port showed that the extension would cost £4S 9/6.
