METHODIST CHURCH AFFAIRS.

V The Methodist Circuit qu‘a.;;r:rly (business meeting was held on Wednesday evening, the Rev. W. Lea occupied the chair_ ’Miniutes of pre; vious meeting were read by Mr J. -W.‘ Simpson, after which the balancesheet was presented by Mr J. R. Cunninghame. The same showed a credit of £4 on the quarter. Circuit and Trust debts had however accumulated'to such an extent during the past, that an extra amount of £45 was urgently req'uil'ed. ’

It was reported that a Ladies’ Sewing Guild of some twenty members under tie presiifenéfr of Mrs J, A. Webb, had commenced operations “with ’Ehe’Cfbject of meeting these accounts.

Mr Cunninghame (Senimj Circuit Stew'ard) stated that the Taihape congregation had got so small that a welcome social to the new minister had been out of the question. Mr Lea’s first congregation had consisted of only seven adults. The oflicials, however, promised h‘eartY cooperation in the efiort that was being made to rebuild. ‘

Mr A. Cfhompson was also heartily Welcomed to the meeting, and it was the unanimous request of those present that Mrs Thompson preside at the church organ for Sunday evening services. '

Progress had been recorded during the quarter. The church grounds no longer resembled a Wilderness, the ‘building had been painted free of debt, a heater had been installed, a choir of 16 members had been formed, and the average Taihape cash collection amount had doubled. The new minister‘ found Torere and Taoroa services well attended. Mr Goldsbury favoured the ‘holding of a monthly Sunday evening service in the Utiku Hail. It was also decided to commence services at Winiata and Turangaarere. Mr Darvill (Foreign Mission Secretary) stated thatsan efiort would be made to secure subscriptions for that fund during the coming quar-1 ter. - ~ I

The meeting, which was of an optimistic nature was bfought to a close with the Benediction.
