PROGRESS IN TAIHAPE.
COLLINSON & GIFFORD’S ENTERPRISE.
That Taihape possesses business men with unlimited faith in its future, and a vision to anticipate the benefits to be‘;-erived during its evolution as the principal town in the rich. and prosperous district of which it is the geographical centre, is evidenced by a transaction which was concluded last week by Messrs Collinson and Gifl°ord. This firm has purchasedthe site and buildings owned by Taihape Motors Ltd., and it is their intention to extend their present building over the vacant sectic-n adjoining _.connecting up with the garage. The garage is to be‘tl-ansformed into an up-to-date showroom, which will be _ accessible from every department. The front of the extension will conform to the style and method of construction of windows, etc., of the present buildiug_ The verandah will also be extended to the full Width of the section, the style of architecture being uniform with that already existing. Plans are now being prepared to carry out tlle alterations and. additions which we have meniioned. All niaterial is tobe of a'most substantial nature, so that eventually, if the necessity arises‘ another storey can be imposed. That this enterprise of Messrs Collinsan; and Gifford will be a decided advant-1 age to the town must be patent to everyone. Such a width of plate glass ‘windows, constructed on the “Island” plan, with its blaze of elec—tric light and display of daintily arranged goods, will make this portion of ‘Main Street very attractive. ;
Mr Gifford informs usithat such an extension was absolutely necessary to enable them to cope‘ with their rapidly increasing business. It is their intention‘ to institute other departments which have been neglected owing to want of room and facilities’ for dealing profitably and szitisfactorily with them. In answer to our query how, in the depleted. condition of the w-orld’s markets, the goods necessary for the various departments were -to be procured, Mr Gifford informed us that this had all been provided for months ago, and the goods would ‘be to hand as soon-‘as the extensions were ‘completed. We congratulate Messrs Collinson and Gifford on their enterprise, which is as much a tribute to the town to their own business acumen.
