Sever} Hindu scruh-cxitters from the backbldcks statioii arrived at CarterTon last night. and ‘took up their -abode in a small unoccupied cottage. Some 60 or 70 men, Eiiropeans. ninde a demonstration ‘in front nf.’ the place,
threatening to eject the Hindus forcibly unless they went peac‘eabl_V. The police arrived, and warned tlfe demonstrators of the consequences of any oVel't’act against the Hindus. but the crowd was determined not to allow them to remain. Finally the Hindus decided to leave the town. Escorted to the railway station. tfiéy boarded the train for Masterton. It is: reported they camped in the Masterton Park all night.
