RAILVVAY AND POSTAL EMPLOg_YICES’ INCREASED SALARIES.
VVELLINGTON, July 5.
When referring to the cost of salary increases in the Postal and "Rail: -ways Departments, the Prime Minister said these would have to be met by increased charges on fares and freights and further imposts on letters and telegrams. It" may be some time yet before the changes are announced, for the work of adjusting pay really only \commence<l when the three railway tribunals reported the result of their de~ liberations. In accordance with the Prime Minister’s promise, a special committee of the heads of Departments wag at once set, up to consider the adjustment of pay. The committee‘. is working with Mr Massey, as Minister of Finance, and until its Work is finished it will not‘ be possible t-o say what the increases will be.
