FOOTBALL.

SAT UR-DAY ’S G AMES.

NOTES BY ONLOOKER.

The junior game was hard fought, both teams being fairly “even amongst the forwards but the back division of both were starved. Knox »-at half certainly did his best but. bad picking up of the ball on his part prevented him getting the‘ backs going. The bookers for Mataroa require more practice; in fact the forward pack could all do with some scrum practice. Huia playcd a forward game which was their best course as the forwards were a fair pack and the backs were not too safe. Mataroa, with the backs they had, should have made the game open and tlll'o\vli’tlle hall about, instead of kicking. If they are fortunate enough to have the same team next Saturday I would advise them To make the game open. -»

My advice to the Pirates is make the game open. On Saturday ’s play most of the :Huia fol'Wa.l'ds must -get :2 place in the reg. team, but the most collsisioont'play.el?s should receive consideration. However, further comment is withheld until the names of those selected areptlblished. “Oniooke:-” wonders if the Taihape l,'m'on can only boast of two referees.
