WELLINGTON, This day. Mr George Wilson, a retired Wellington business man. has been appointed a member of the Board of Trade. The period of the original appointments expired some time ago. Since then certain rearrangements have been in progress.

The Prime Minister stated some time ago, when the adjusting of wages an<) salaries in the Railway Department had been completed he would direct to the departmental committee the recommendation for bringing the rates of pay in other branches of the Public Service into line. This committee ba s now been set up, consisting of the Public Service Commissioner. the acting head of the Postal ■Department, the General Manager of Railways, and the head of the Treasury Committee, which is working with Mr Massey as Minister of Finance. This committee has commenced its duties and is making progress.

TROUBLE IN INDIA. Received 11.30 a.m. DELHI, July 4. The campaign against the Turkish Peace terms in India is embodied in the plan issued by Gandhi, an Indian leader. The campaign opens on August Ist. ft comprises the surrender of all titles, honorary offices, nonparticipation in Government loans, suspension by lawyers of practice in settlement of civil disputes, boycott of Government schools by parents, boycott of reformed councils, nonparticipation in Government parties and such, other functions, refusal to accept any civil or military post in Mesopotamia op offer-as units for the army, and a vigorous boycott of foreign produced goods. There is a risk of an outbreak of violence in such a campaign, but except for this it is not believed the movement will have the slightest chance of embarrassing the Government.
