j IJROBABLE APPOINTMENTS, I j WELLINGTON, This Day. It has already been announced that the Government intends to appoint some half-dozen new members to the Legislative Council. It may now be suggested with some degree of certainty who these new members are to be. In the first place, the two members who retired on June 27th by effluxion of time are to be re-appointed, namely j Messrs C. A. C. HaVdy and W. Earnsltaw. The new members, it is understood, Will be;— ' Hon.' E. Mitehelson (Auckland), a .former member of the House and of the Ministry. ' ' ' ' Colonel G. J. Smith, Member of the Council until 1911, and sometime Commandant at Sling Camp during the war. j Mark Cohen, editor of the Dunedin Star. * ’’ E. Clarke, who represented Chalmers front 1908 to 1914 in the House of Representatives. E. Scott, who sat for many years in the House for O.tago Central, and was defeated at the last elections for Wakatipu, his own seat having disappeared owing to the alteration of boundaries. P. J. Nerheny, retired builder and contractor, of Auckland, and member of the City Council and other local bodies. It is understood two of these appointments were agreed upon in the days of the National Government; that both of them were made at the instance of Sir Joseph Ward’s side of the Government, and that the two he recommended were Colonel Smith and Mr. Nerheny. APPOINTMENTS .CONFIRMED. Later. The suggested appointments to the Legislative Council are now confirmed. The appointments will be announced in the Council this afternoon, and the new members will tskc their seats on Tuesday.
