The stoppage of work on the workers dwelling contract at Miramar lias occasioned public surprise, the reason for cessation as stated by the contractor to be that the department has not fulfilled, its obligations according to the architects'- certificates. The contractor ha s no desire to start again, as he is negotiating with the Prime Minister, who is inquiring into the matter. The housing scheme was cynically referred to by Mr P. Fraser in the House of Representatives on Friday afternoon. He stated thai at the present, rate of progress the Government project of erecting 20.000 dwellings would take 100 years to complete, not taking into consideration the growth of population.
