NEW ZEALAND BUTTER.
J THE CO-OPERATIVE OFFER. | MR W. GOODFELLOW'S VIEWS. HAMILTON, June 26. In conversation with Mr W. Goodfellow, managing director of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, ?a representative of the Auckland Star, was informed regarding this cable the position was apparently not fully understood in . London, for no arrangement bad been made for the Co-opera rive Wholesale Society to take the whole Xeiv Zealand, output., though some of the smaller dairy factories in New Zealand had decided to sell to the Co-operative Wholesale Society. As far as- Auckland factories were concerned, Mr Goodfellow said that probably some would enter into the scheme, but the bulk of the butter from this district would be sold under pre-war '.•onditions as soon as ever the market was available. The scheme for selling to the C.W.S. was only in its initial stage, and as far as his company was concerned the directors had not yet been afforded an opportunity of seriously considering the matter. He did not think it probable that the proposal would be sufficiently attractive to induce the directors to make such a drastic change at present. Mr Goodfellow also mentioned that negotiations r.re in progress for the amalgamation of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company and the Thames Valley Cooperative Dairy Company. Those two companies manufacture together at least oue-third of the total butted made in New Zealand, and shipped one-half of the total quantity exported to the United Kingdom from this country.
